Who We Are

Our Mission /

The Center for Black Women's Wellness, Inc. (CBWW) is a non-profit organization that provides free and low-cost services to empower black women, and their families, toward physical, mental and economic wellness.

CBWW recognizes that empowering black women leads to the empowerment of the family and, eventually, the empowerment of the community. That is why CBWW is the ONE place that caters to the physical, mental and economic needs of Atlanta's black women through the following comprehensive services:

• Preventative health services
• Maternal and child health services
• Mental health screening and referrals
• Self-employment training

In addition, CBWW provides teen pregnancy prevention and youth development programs to benefit youth and families.

Our History /

CBWW was established in 1988 under the auspices of the National Black Women's Health Project (now called the Black Women's Health Imperative), a health advocacy and self-help organization (Byllye Avery, founder).

Conceived as a program that would one day be independent, Cheryl Y. Boykins became the leading force behind CBWW gaining its 501 © (3) status and became CBWW's first President/Chief Executive Officer.

Over the years, CBWW has not only garnered the support of the families served, but has become known among health and social services agencies as a popular referral for women and their families. CBWW is an important resource for Atlanta's black women and families and those who are underserved.

Although the majority of our clients are African American women, CBWW does not restrict its services based on gender or race.
